Final Project

Final Project

For our final project we had to take a lesson plan that we have used in a previous class. The lesson that I created was “Increasing students understanding of Monochromatic painting”. The grade level that I would teach this lesson in is ninth grade but this lesson can be adjusted to teach younger grades or higher grades. The time frame that would complete this lesson would be in 3 to 5 class periods if the class periods are 45 minutes long. I would start the lesson with a brief powerpoint of what monochromatic is and what they are going to be working on. The technology that I used for this first part is a powerpoint program, projector and projector screen and internet access. The standards would imply the use of vocabulary to describe various art forms, artist, and elements in the visual arts. For the second part I would have a class demonstration where the students would look at examples from the year before or examples that I created and then the class would have a group discussion about the project. The technology that would be used in this is digital camera and Photoshop based programs, and a laptop or computer. The standards that would imply would be to demonstrate the safe and appropriate use and care of art materials and tools. Also as the significance of the application of the elements of art and principles of design. The third part is for the students to create a monochromatic painting of themselves. The students will be using their own face for their project. The technology that they would be using is Adobe Photoshop, a digital camera/software, internet access and of course laptop or computer because the students will be using their own face to create the monochromatic painting. Then the students will take which ever picture they choose to use of them and change the picture and break the picture up into shades. From there they will start to create their image. The standards that would imply to this step would apply various art media, art mediums, technologies, and processes in the creation of theme-based, two and three dimensional works of art, using tools and technologies that are appropriate to the theme and goals. Another standard is to synthesize the physical properties, processes, and techniques for visual communication in multiple art media and apply this knowledge to the creation of original artworks. Also they will be creating original works of art as a means of personal expression. The last and final part is the final critique of the students artwork. There would be a big class discussion where the students will get feedback from other students about how they can improve their monochromatic painting of themselves. The technology that would be used in this part would be a powerpoint of the vocabulary so that the students can use these words when describing other students work during the critique. Some standards that would be implied in this part is to identify common and distinctive characteristics of genres of visual artworks using age appropriate terminology, and experiment with various compositional approaches influenced by these genres. Another one would be to examine the characteristics, thematic content, and symbolism found in works of art from diverse cultural and historical eras, and use these visual statements as inspiration for original artworks, as well as digital citizenship: exhibit a positive attitude toward using technology that supports collaboration, learning, and productivity. I believe this lesson has a great balance between teaching and technology use. This lesson would not be able to be done without the use of the technology that I added into the lesson plan.
