Final Project

Final Project

For our final project we had to take a lesson plan that we have used in a previous class. The lesson that I created was “Increasing students understanding of Monochromatic painting”. The grade level that I would teach this lesson in is ninth grade but this lesson can be adjusted to teach younger grades or higher grades. The time frame that would complete this lesson would be in 3 to 5 class periods if the class periods are 45 minutes long. I would start the lesson with a brief powerpoint of what monochromatic is and what they are going to be working on. The technology that I used for this first part is a powerpoint program, projector and projector screen and internet access. The standards would imply the use of vocabulary to describe various art forms, artist, and elements in the visual arts. For the second part I would have a class demonstration where the students would look at examples from the year before or examples that I created and then the class would have a group discussion about the project. The technology that would be used in this is digital camera and Photoshop based programs, and a laptop or computer. The standards that would imply would be to demonstrate the safe and appropriate use and care of art materials and tools. Also as the significance of the application of the elements of art and principles of design. The third part is for the students to create a monochromatic painting of themselves. The students will be using their own face for their project. The technology that they would be using is Adobe Photoshop, a digital camera/software, internet access and of course laptop or computer because the students will be using their own face to create the monochromatic painting. Then the students will take which ever picture they choose to use of them and change the picture and break the picture up into shades. From there they will start to create their image. The standards that would imply to this step would apply various art media, art mediums, technologies, and processes in the creation of theme-based, two and three dimensional works of art, using tools and technologies that are appropriate to the theme and goals. Another standard is to synthesize the physical properties, processes, and techniques for visual communication in multiple art media and apply this knowledge to the creation of original artworks. Also they will be creating original works of art as a means of personal expression. The last and final part is the final critique of the students artwork. There would be a big class discussion where the students will get feedback from other students about how they can improve their monochromatic painting of themselves. The technology that would be used in this part would be a powerpoint of the vocabulary so that the students can use these words when describing other students work during the critique. Some standards that would be implied in this part is to identify common and distinctive characteristics of genres of visual artworks using age appropriate terminology, and experiment with various compositional approaches influenced by these genres. Another one would be to examine the characteristics, thematic content, and symbolism found in works of art from diverse cultural and historical eras, and use these visual statements as inspiration for original artworks, as well as digital citizenship: exhibit a positive attitude toward using technology that supports collaboration, learning, and productivity. I believe this lesson has a great balance between teaching and technology use. This lesson would not be able to be done without the use of the technology that I added into the lesson plan.

Interactivity #5

The teacher that I surveyed was not from my content area but she was the only teacher that I knew. When I surveyed the teacher she had no idea what the NETS-S or NETS-T. She said that she has never heard of this area of standards and did not even know that it existed. Her initial reaction was that she was shocked that she has never even heard of these standards.  Since she has been teaching their for five years she has not heard anything about these standards being implemented into the school district that she works at or even being implemented into the state. She said however that the school that she works at has smart boards in every class and they have added more computers so that the students learn how to use these resources to their advantage. They use these resources to learn about jobs that they can have in the future, learn about technology based programs and online learning environments and cites. She teaches in an elementary school of pre-k to 5 graders. She teaches a 5th grade class in East Brunswick school district and has taught there for five years now. She said that the school district committee is trying to have fund raisers to get each class at least two ipads so that the class can have more technology resources to help them with their future and future learning in middle school and in high school. To be honest I was not too surprised to hear that she has not heard of these standards because her school district already is teach these students the standards without having the NETS-S to be enforced. Most schools now a day, teachers are teaching students to look forward to their future and to become more well rounded in online learning and searching for jobs. The students are starting to learn how to do problem solving, critical thinking and using their creativity throughout their everyday life.  As a future educator, I would definitely inform other teachers and educators about these standards if they do not know about them. I would show how important they are and I would get the school board involved so that all schools in that district can learn about these standards and use throughout their lessons that they are teaching their students. These standards are very important and students need to have these part of their school learning. Most teachers are already teaching their students these standards without knowing it. Critical thinking, problem solving and creativity are always enforced throughout ever lesson is most schools.

Interactivity # 4

I choose this lesson because it has a great use of imagination and technology. The lesson has a great way for children to learn about digital cameras. I added that the students should take pictures out in nature and see it in a different way than they normally do and create a work of art out of taking pictures of it. It teaches the students how to edit their work with using Adobe Photoshop programs. Using these programs makes the students become well rounded and universal to technology. The only gap that this lesson had was the lack of technology that the teacher used and had the students use. I also added in the lesson plan to have the class go outside to take pictures of nature and to use computer based programs Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. I also added a demonstration to how to use these programs and a digital camera since some students might not know how to use them. The use of the technology that is in this lesson was minimal so I decided to add more. In this lesson the children will end up using computers, digital cameras, and computer based programs to edit and enhance their images that they took out in nature. The teacher also left out a critique and I think that’s very important to have students look at each other works of art and get criticism on how to make their image better.  Having students learn about using these various technologies is going to help these students learn new things faster than they normally would.

Interactivity #3

For interactivity number three, we all had great technologies that are useful to art and that have a big impact in art classrooms as well as out in the art world. The final end project has a multiple of different technologies that have a huge importance in art, we all individually added great ideas and resources. The technologies that I came up with were hard to think of because most common and most popular technologies were mentioned beforehand. The technologies that I added are still being used in the art world however some of the technologies are not used in all art classes, but are used in some graphic design classes. The entire technology inventory serves a very useful purpose in CURR 314 and READ 411 because it shows the mass of technologies and resources that we as teachers can use in our classroom. Having this list is so helpful for teachers who do not have the resources to multiple technologies and this list shows alternate resources that they can use in their classrooms. Thinking outside of the box is what makes a good teacher and being able to use a variety of different technologies is very helpful.

Interactivity #2

Even though technology is still limited today in art classes, the slide projector in art history classes makes it easy to teach and learn about art in history.

Interactivity #1

The technology has had a huge impact in the way we learn new imformation today. The technologies that I choose that has had the msot influentual impact on my life are my computer, cell phone and my ipod. These three technologies are probably considered the most popular in today society. Almost every child today has at least two or all three of the technology resources. Technology is so convient and useful and is a part of our everyday lives. Technology has become so important in our society today that people can't live without it. We use it to stay in contact with people and to email co-workers and to find out new information for learning in school. Technology has become so involved in education today that no one can learn without it and it is very resourceful to help students learn. What I like about technology is that it teaches people to think in a different way. It teaches people new things and how to view things differently.
The way I use my technology today is similar in some ways to the way the young people use them from the two videos. They use these technologies to keep in contact with the world and to find out new information. Technology today is paving the way of communication for the future. One child in the video said "the cool thing about technology is that you can always change things", I like how they said that because its true, our society today has changed so much since technology has become so involved in our lives and it continues to grow each day. The differences from how I use my technology compared to the videos is that I use mine today mostly for school. Most of the children, not all, use technology to play games or go on facebook. I'm not saying that I don't use technology to keep in contact with people but I use it more for looking up information and learning new things.
